Frank J. Rehm 1935-2017

Frank J. Rehm of Naples Fl. and Cedar Lake passed away on August 15, 2017 at the Avow Hospice in Naples Fl. surrounded by his family. He was born in Utica on January 1, 1935, the son of the late Otto and Emma Rehm. He attended local Schools and graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1952. Frank married Carol McIlwain on June 22, 1957 in Westminster Presbyterian Church, a union of 60 years. He is survived by his wife Carol and their children, Cheryl (Jack), Deborah (Doug) and Gary (Sharon) as well as 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Samantha, Lauren, Erik, Joshua and Justin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Alfred.
Frank continued his education at Utica College where he received his BS degree in Physics in 1960 and his MS degree in Physics from Syracuse University in 1968. Frank spent his entire working career at Rome Air Development Center, starting as an Electronic Engineer in June 1959 and culminating with his appointment to the Senior Executive Service in 1982 before retiring in 1990. Frank was a specialist in developing radar systems technology and received numerous achievements awards.
He was a member of Cedar Lake Golf Club for many years and twice served as the Club President where he was instrumental in updating the facilities and transforming the Club.
Frank was an expert craftsman, built numerous homes and completed major renovations on his homes. Upon his retirement he spent his winters in Naples, Fl. where he belonged to Imperial Golf Club. He loved spending time on the golf course with friends and family members where he enjoyed the competition and comradery. He volunteered his time with Habitat For Humanity and Literacy of America.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit, on Thursday, September 14th, from 1 to 3 pm, with a Memorial Service following at 3:00 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Cedar Lake Cemetery.
